A total conversion of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland for PC by the 10K Rising team. It keeps THAW's story mode and adds levels from almost every Neversoft Tony Hawk's game, hundreds of skaters, classic tours, mod support and OpenSpy online.
THUG Pro built its collection of every Neversoft level on Tony Hawk’s Underground 2. reTHAWed does the same job on the next game, American Wasteland, so it plays with THAW’s moves: walking, bert slides, Natas spins and the BMX bike. The fan wiki puts the difference this way: “unlike THUG Pro, reTHAWed allows players to play through the entire THAW story campaign”. Its levels come from every main Neversoft game from THPS1 to Project 8, plus Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure. Those include the Collector’s Edition levels that Aspyr’s 2006 PC port left out. Online play goes through OpenSpy, the replacement for GameSpy.
The mod is made by 10K Rising, whose Discord describes itself as “a modding community for the Tony Hawk’s game series, primarily focused on THAW”. The team overlaps with other Neversoft-engine projects. Zedek and Uzis are both credited on Guitar Hero World Tour: Definitive Edition, which runs on a later version of the same engine. reTHAWed’s own credits thank PARTYMANX for rewriting its input and output, bAstimc for THPS 1+2 physics, CHC for OpenSpy, and Neversoft co-founder Mick West for information about the engine.
Release by release
The first beta came out on October 8, 2017. Releases since version 3.0 in March 2023 are in a public GitGud repository, and every commit message there is a full changelog. Uzis ran the early releases. Zedek has written nearly all of them since 4.1 in mid-2024, and the updates got much bigger:
4.1 (June 2024) brought in levels from six games, a flip and roll system rewritten from scratch, Project 8 slow spins and ultrawide screens.
4.2 (Christmas 2024) added mod support. Skaters, decks, items and levels install as add-ons from the thpsGoat depository, and custom levels are validated so they work online.
4.4 (October 2025) added full classic mode tours for THPS3 and Project 8, with characters and decks unlocked by playing them.
4.5 (March 2026) added THPS2 and THUG2 classic modes. ResetEra picked it up from a summary by TheNathanNS.
5.0
Version 5.0 came out on October 4, 2026, with a launch trailer. The biggest addition is the whole THUG2 story mode, playable from a new story menu next to THAW’s. Our 5.0 write-up covers the rest.
Installing it
reTHAWed installs through the reTHAWed Updater, Zedek’s NX Mod Updater, for Windows or Linux. You need your own copy of THAW for PC. The game doesn’t have to run, but its files must not be in Program Files. The download is about 7 GB, and the updater needs .NET Framework 4.8. The team notes that antivirus warnings about the unsigned updater are false positives, and you can build it from source if you’d rather. Steps are in Get started with THUG Pro, reTHAWed and PARTYMOD.
Lead engine developer ("The Engine Ripper") and the author of nearly every release since 4.1. Wrote the NX Mod Updater that installs and patches the mod, and worked on the updater and engine for Guitar Hero World Tour Definitive Edition.
Former project lead ("gameplay, everything"). Set up the public release repository in 2023, shipped 3.0 through 4.0, and wrote Boombox, the music pack tool.
Adds levels from THPS3, THPS4, THUG, THUG2, Project 8 and Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, a rewritten flip and roll system with THUG2 and Project 8 variants, and ultrawide support.
Custom skaters, decks, items and levels load as mods, with level validation so custom maps work online. Also adds THPS1 Roswell and Burnside, THPS4 Alcatraz and five THUG levels.
The whole THUG2 story mode becomes playable next to THAW's, story mode gets a full Create-a-Skater menu, and custom graphics now show up online. Also adds Burnside, the Tony Hawk Shred cast and hundreds of items.
