From the author's README on Thunderstore

A ReSkate plugin for listening to music with other people in the same session. One person starts a party, others join it from the menu, and everyone can see what's playing. Pair it with a Spotify Jam and you all hear the same songs while you skate.

What it does

  • Start a party from the menu. Anyone else in your session who has the mod sees it in a list and can join.
  • Optional password, set by the host only.
  • The party card shows who's in it and what the host is playing.
  • The host's play, pause, next and previous presses get copied on everyone else's Spotify (guests can turn this off).
  • The host can paste in a Spotify Jam link, which only party members see. Turn on the QR code and scan it with your phone to join the Jam.

What it doesn't do

It can't join a Jam for you. ReSkate plugins have no clipboard, can't open links, and Spotify has no public Jam API. So the host starts the Jam in Spotify, types the short link into the plugin, and everyone else joins it themselves (the QR code makes that easier). The plugin handles the party and the controls, Spotify handles the audio.

It also can't pick songs or playlists. It talks to Spotify through Windows media controls, which only allow play, pause, next and previous.

Install

  1. Copy the JamParty folder into Mods next to Skate.exe.
  2. Open the console and run plugin list. You should see JamParty: running.
  3. Open the ReSkate menu (Insert), go to PLUGINS, then Jam Party.

If you're editing the files, saving reloads the plugin within a couple of seconds. plugin reload JamParty does it right away.

How to use it

Hosting

  1. Join a multiplayer session and press Start a party.
  2. Start a Jam in the Spotify app and copy its short link (something like spotify.link/AbCd123).
  3. Press Share Jam link and type it in. You can't paste into ReSkate's text fields.
  4. Optionally press Set password.
  5. Use the Previous, Play, Pause and Next buttons to control everyone's music.

Joining

  1. Pick the party from the list. Enter the password if it's locked.
  2. Join the Jam in Spotify with the link shown, or switch on Show Jam QR code on screen and scan it with the Spotify app on your phone, then choose your PC as the device.
  3. Leave "Mirror host's play, pause and skip" on if you want to follow the host's controls.

The QR code only shows while the Jam Party page is open in the menu.

Notes

  • Everyone needs Spotify running on their PC, and the mod installed.
  • The password isn't encrypted and there's no lockout on wrong guesses. It keeps casual people out, nothing more.
  • Parties hold up to 16 people.
  • The mod never writes to chat.
  • Links longer than about 100 characters won't fit in the QR code. Short links are fine.

Files

  • plugin/main.lua is the party, networking and menu code.
  • plugin/qr.lua is a small QR code generator.
  • reskate-plugin.json lists the permissions the plugin asks for.
  • manifest.json is the mod's name and version.

Install JamParty

You need ReSkate and your own copy of skate. on Steam.

  1. Open ReSkateLauncher.exe and go to MODS.
  2. Search for JamParty and click install. The launcher also installs anything it depends on.
  3. Press PLAY. In game, the MODS tab of the ReSkate menu (Insert) turns it on and off.

Or install it by hand: download the .zip and drop it on the launcher window, or unzip it into its own folder in Mods\ beside Skate.exe.

Maps show up in the ReSkate menu's level list. To join a server running a custom map, you need the same map installed. If the game won't load after installing, see known issues.

skatemods doesn't host or review this mod. The download comes straight from Thunderstore. Only install mods you trust, because scripts can run code.
