FAQ /

Can I mod Skate 3 on a real PS3 or Xbox 360?

Yes, if the console is modded. A PS3 on HEN or custom firmware runs SPRX menus and custom maps, and an RGH or JTAG Xbox 360 runs real-time editing tools. A stock console can't load mods.

PS3: HEN and custom firmware

Homebrew on a PS3 means running a hybrid (HEN) or custom firmware (CFW). RPCS3’s quickstart assumes one of these when it explains how to dump games from a console. With a modded PS3 you can:

  • run SPRX mod menus. The EA SKATE MODDING team’s menu, for example, came as a one-click installer in Grim Doe’s All In One Modding Tool.
  • replace game files with custom maps, the same way as on RPCS3.
  • go online on community servers. skate6743’s server-IP changer targets HEN and CFW consoles.

Xbox 360: RGH and JTAG

Reset Glitch Hack (RGH) and JTAG consoles run unsigned code, which opens up real-time editing. Skate3RTE is an open-source example.

Should you?

Modding a console is a hardware project with real risk, and guides go out of date. The community’s newer work runs on PC: the recomp and RPCS3. A modded console is mostly worth it for playing on original hardware, or if you already have one.
